The Stone Gate Guest House is located on the picturesque foothills of Jakab Hill in the west part of Southern Transdanubia, not far from Pécs in the hospitable small village of Cserkút. The abundant in protected, natural values accepts its guests at the foot of red rock hill, with the clean air, the silence, the beauty of the rural tourism products of high quality eco-receptions, craftwork demonstrations and gastronomy.

The Stone Gate Guest House thanks to its over a hundred years of history, and the renovation one can feel on the beauty of the past and the comforts of the modern age at the same time. The guest house awaits guests seeking to relax in beautiful surroundings in the area of Western Mecsek Hills Nature Reserve.

The house has two rooms, in which at the same time nine people can be accommodated comfortably, and there are 2 extra beds at guests' disposal. The rooms have private bathrooms, the shared kitchen is well equipped and has everything in it that is needed for baking, cooking.

Meals basically work on a self-catering basis, but upon the guests' request a half-board option is also available. On the designated area in the green courtyard belonging to the guest house guests can cook, bake, in a cauldron or in an oven outdoor.

The guests staying in the guest house do not have to do without their pets, as the owners of the guest house welcome them too.

The accommodation is open all year round for the lovers of nature any time of year: there is always something to see in the Mecsek, in Pecs and in surrounding settlements.

Those who wish spend their free time near water, may choose from three nearby thermal baths offer Szigetvár, Harkány and Siklós. Those who like fishing may pursue their favorite activity while away from home, because the village has a fishing pond.

Attractions of Cserkút

  • A church from the age of Arpads famous for its frescoes and mini calvary
  • The exhibition of local history and stonework is open to visitors.
  • 50 meters west of the church there is the eponymous well of the village and the wash house’s ruins can be viewed.
  • At the bottom part of the village in beautiful surroundings there is a little lake, where you can fish by purchasing a daily ticket.
  • There is a soccer field, too.

The village is the starting and endpoint to several tourist paths, the blue tourist path starting from the center of the village leads up to the Jakab Hill. There are number of attractions there, for example Babás-szerkövek, Eagle's Nest, Jubilee Cross, Pauline Monastery ruin, which are all sights of the Jakab Hill and parts of a nature conservation area.

Programs in Cserkut:

  • In early May, a public excursion and picnic to Jakab Hill and at the end of May the Children's Day programs.
  • The last weekend of June village's day and diverse programs, evening fireworks.
  • On August 20, Bread Festival is held, where there are folk games, baking bread and lots of interesting things for people to get acquainted with
  • In November, the Martin's day feast and wine tasting.

Programs in the area and in Pécs

  • Pécs: Hungary's fifth largest city, Baranya County's county town. The city is rich in monuments, it is considered the spiritual and cultural center of the region. The city's cultural life is nationally prominent as well as in the field of visual arts as in music. The main sights: Cell Septichora Visitor Center, Zsolnay Museum, Vasarely Museum, National Theatre, Csontvary Museum, Kodály Centre, Zsolnay Cultural Quarter, TV tower, Tettye Tufa Cave, The Barbican, the Cathedral and many other sights and tourist destinations await visitors.
  • Orfű: The Mill Museum, The Village and Kemences Farm Museum, The Yurt Camp, Dragon Boating, Lake of Orfű, Lake of Pécs, the Herman Otto Lake and the Kovácsszénája Lake. Water sport activities, fishing, cycling awaits their visitors
  • Abaliget: the Lake of Abaligeti for fishing, Boating Lake, Bat Museum, Barn Museum, parish and community hall, stalactite cave in Abaliget is one of the best known and most popular of the natural attractions in the Mecsek.
  • Villány: the wine region of Villany on which Hungary's first wine tour leads through is the bastion of domestic wine tourism. One can admire the art of excellent wine-making, the wine region's architectural and cultural heritage, one can enjoy its people’s hospitality, can taste the world-famous wines of Villany: Blaufränkisch, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Zweigelt, Pinot Noir, Blaufränkisch cuvée.
  • the town at the foothills of Tenkes mountain is the center of economic and cultural life of the region, famous for its wines, its castle and the countless monuments (Mosque of Melkocs bej, Calvinist church, Townhall of Siklos, Music Fountain etc.) that can be found in the town. Thanks to its excellent white wines (Riesling, "Hárslevelű", Traminer, Chardonnay) and its thermal bath Siklos offers an excellent setting for family and business programs and leisure activities.
